🌱 Our Learning Themes This Term

This half term, children across the nursery will be exploring a range of exciting themes that support their confidence, curiosity and overall development.

All learning is delivered through play, stories, songs and hands-on experiences, with activities carefully differentiated to meet the needs of both our Under 3’s and Over 3’s.

🌱 Baby Room

In our Baby Room, all themes are explored through sensory play, simple language, songs and hands-on experiences to support early development. Below is an overview of how we will be bringing our learning to life, alongside some of our special activities and reminders.

World Book Day (World Book Week)

Each day we will share a different story book, encouraging babies to explore pictures, textures and sounds. We will create themed tuff tray activities linked to our focus stories to support curiosity, communication and early literacy skills.

Some of the books and activities we will be exploring include:

  • Old MacDonald Had a Farm – Farm-themed tuff tray with soil, grass and toy tractors to encourage sensory exploration and animal sounds.
  • Wild Animal / Safari Stories – Safari-themed tuff tray with grass textures and rice crispies for sensory play, introducing animal names and sounds.
  • The Colour Monster – Exploring different coloured objects in a sensory box alongside the story to help introduce early emotions and colour recognition.
  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Green spaghetti tuff tray shaped like a caterpillar for messy play, with snack time linked to fruits from the story to support familiarity and language.
  • Five Little Ducks – Water play activities to support counting language, movement and sensory development.

Signs of Spring

We will explore spring colours through sensory boxes filled with different textured materials. Babies will learn about simple spring animals and take part in painting using a variety of tools and materials. Very simple life cycle concepts will be introduced through visual and sensory experiences.

Introduction to Life Cycles & Growing

Through messy play, sensory trays and simple visual prompts, babies will begin to explore how things grow and change, using natural materials where possible.

Our Planet & Recycling

We will introduce simple recycling play by exploring materials such as paper, cardboard and plastic during sensory activities, helping babies begin to understand caring for their environment.

Eid

We will celebrate Eid through age-appropriate activities including:

  • Making Eid cards
  • Moon and star sensory rice play
  • Star stamping with paint
  • Balloons and bubbles for celebration fun
  • Exploring mehndi patterns using sand and mark-making activities

🍎 World Food Day – 25th March (Eid Theme)

During snack time, babies will explore different flavours and textured foods to support sensory development and early tasting experiences, linked to celebration foods in a simple and safe way.

📌 Messages for Parents – Baby Room

  • Please bring in a small family photograph for our cosy corner display. This supports babies’ emotional security, sense of belonging and communication.

All activities will focus on sensory exploration, communication and building confidence, ensuring our youngest learners are supported at their individual stage of development. 🌸

Tweenies

In our Tweenie Room, children will explore each theme through hands-on activities, role play, dressing up and fun experiences that support their communication, confidence and growing independence.

World Book Day

Children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. We are currently enjoying a book a day to help build a love of stories and support early language development. Throughout the week, we will take part in themed activities linked to our daily stories, encouraging role play, mark-making and imaginative play.

Ramadhan & Eid

During Ramadhan, we will introduce simple, age-appropriate discussions about why some families fast and how this is a special time of reflection and kindness. Children will have opportunities for dressing up and exploring cultural clothing through role play.

To celebrate Eid, children can come dressed in their Eid outfits or fancy dress. We will enjoy a special Eid party with music, simple party games, dancing and celebration activities to promote social skills and confidence.

Easter Activities

Children will take part in an Easter egg hunt around the room or outdoor area, encouraging listening, turn-taking and problem-solving skills. We will also make Easter treasure baskets and decorate eggs through painting and creative crafts, supporting fine motor development and creativity.

All activities are carefully adapted for our 2-year-olds, ensuring learning remains playful, engaging and age-appropriate while celebrating different cultures and experiences. 🌼

📌 Messages for Parents – Tweenie Room

We kindly ask that children do not bring toys from home into nursery.

We understand that children love to share their favourite toys, however toys from home can sometimes get lost or broken, which can be upsetting for little ones. It can also make sharing and turn-taking more challenging at this age.

Please be assured that we provide a wide range of exciting, age-appropriate resources and activities each day to keep the children engaged and happy.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. 🌼

Pre-School

In Pre-School, children explore themes through discussion, investigation, hands-on experiences and real-life learning opportunities to build knowledge, independence and curiosity.

This Half Term’s Learning

Growing Mushrooms & Plants
Children will take part in growing mushrooms, as well as planting a variety of vegetables and plants. They will learn what plants need to grow, observe changes over time and take responsibility for watering and caring for them. This supports understanding of the natural world and develops early science skills.

Eid Celebrations
We will talk about Eid in an age-appropriate way, discussing why and how it is celebrated. Children will explore traditions, look at images and stories linked to Eid, and taste different cultural foods to broaden their experiences and understanding of diversity.

Recycling & Composting
As part of learning about caring for our planet, children will recycle old vegetable peelings to create compost. They will learn how food scraps can be reused to help plants grow and feed worms, developing their understanding of sustainability and life processes.

Life Cycles – Butterflies & Caterpillars
Children will explore the life cycles of animals, focusing on butterflies and caterpillars. Using stories, visuals and observation activities, they will learn how caterpillars change and grow into butterflies, helping them understand growth, change and sequencing.

All week we will be celebrating stories by creating a themed tuff tray each day linked to a different book:

  • The Gruffalo
  • Danny Goes to the Dentist
  • Even Fairies Need Glasses
  • The Three Little Pigs
  • The Gingerbread Man
