Nursery Rhymes Newsletter
Welcome back! We are so happy to see all the children return, excited to learn and play with their friends. This half term we have lots of fun activities planned, including exploring nature, celebrating special events, and trying hands-on learning. We can’t wait for all the exciting experiences ahead!

🌱 Our Learning Themes This Term
This half term, children across the nursery will be exploring a range of exciting themes that support their confidence, curiosity and overall development.
Our focus areas throughout the term include emotional development, sustainability, literacy, nature, creativity and communication. All activities are carefully adapted to suit each age group, ensuring children are supported at their own stage of learning and development.
Across the nursery, our themes include:
- World Book Week
Celebrating stories and the joy of reading through dressing up, storytelling, role play and exploring our favourite books together. This supports early literacy skills and builds a love of reading. - Signs of Spring
Observing changes in the weather, plants and animals as we move into spring. Children will explore blossom, new growth and seasonal changes through outdoor learning, supporting their understanding of nature. - Introduction to Life Cycles & Growing
Learning about how plants, animals and mini-beasts grow and change over time through planting activities, stories and simple investigations, encouraging curiosity about the natural world. - Our Planet & Recycling
Helping children understand sustainability by learning how to care for our environment, recycle materials and reduce waste in simple, meaningful ways. - Eid
Exploring Eid in an age-appropriate way through stories, discussions and creative activities, supporting children’s cultural awareness and emotional development. - Spring Celebrations & Life Cycles
Exploring themes of new life and growth linked to springtime, including eggs, chicks and baby animals, while encouraging creativity through crafts and role play. - Easter
Taking part in Easter-themed activities and crafts, learning about traditions and seasonal changes in a child-friendly way. - World Food Day – 25th March (Eid Theme)
Exploring different foods, discussing celebration meals and learning about healthy choices through an Eid-inspired focus.
All learning is delivered through play, stories, songs and hands-on experiences, with activities carefully differentiated to meet the needs of both our Under 3’s and Over 3’s.
Caterpillars – Baby Room
In our Baby Room, all themes will be explored through sensory play, songs, stories and hands-on experiences to support early development. Here is how we will be bringing our learning to life this half term:
- Story Sacks – Weekly story sacks will be read at nursery and sent home for families to enjoy together.
- Spring Fascination Spot – Exploring daffodils and seasonal changes through sensory play.
- Planting Herbs – Children will plant and care for herbs, learning how to nurture living things.
- Baby Animals & Small World Farm – Books and small world play to explore farm animals and their habitats.
- Different Earth Textures – Sensory exploration with grass, sand, moss, rocks and other natural materials.
- Junk Modelling & Painting Boxes – Creative activities to explore textures, shapes and mark-making.
- Henna Painting & Eid Party – Celebrating Eid through henna-inspired painting and Asian music.
- Easter Cards & Egg/Bun Tray – Fine motor activities to decorate Easter cards and explore textures.
- Mother’s Day Heart Wellbeing Packs – Each child will create a special gift containing a painted wooden heart, a quote or poem, and some love hearts for their special grown-up.
📌 Messages for Parents – Baby room
- Please bring shoes for outdoor play if your baby is walking.
- Send plenty of spare clothes to ensure your child stays comfortable during messy and sensory activities.
Tweenies
In our Tweenie Room, children will explore themes through hands-on activities, role play, sensory experiences and outdoor exploration, supporting their communication, independence, and curiosity.
- World Book Week – We will focus on two familiar, repetitive story sacks to support early language and comprehension. Children are invited to bring a book from home all week and dress up as their favourite character if they wish.
- Signs of Spring – Exploring the outdoors and noticing differences in nature, light and dark, and plant growth. Activities include a sunflower race where children plant and care for their own seeds.
- Introduction to Life Cycles – Sensory bottles to explore the life cycle of a butterfly and activities inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
- Our Planet – Activities inspired by The Snail and the Whale, including planet colour collages to explore our world.
- Recycling – Junk modelling and creative activities to support understanding of reusing materials.
- Eid – Celebrating Eid through a variety of activities including dress-up, playdough, construction and themed creative play. Look out for our special Eid celebration and marvellous menu!
- Easter – Flower bomb activities, Easter egg hunts, collage and egg painting for fine motor development and creativity.
- Special Events – We will celebrate The Gruffalo’s Birthday on 23rd March 2026 and start preparing our forest area for growing projects. Parents who would like to volunteer to help with this can email: nurseryrhymeshuddersfield@gmail.com.
📌 Messages for Parents – Tweenies
- Please check your child’s bag regularly and provide spare clothes and nappies.
- Thank you for supporting your child’s independence and helping us ensure every child is comfortable and ready to explore.
- Please ensure your child’s packed lunch is balanced. If you would like ideas or guidance, please ask a member of staff.
Pre-School
In Pre-School, children will explore themes through hands-on activities, outdoor learning, stories, and creative play to build knowledge, confidence, independence, and curiosity.
- Super Worm Activities & Wormery – Continuing to care for and observe our wormery, learning about habitats, life cycles, and responsibility.
- Forest School – More outdoor exploration this half term. Please bring wellies and appropriate clothing so children can enjoy forest activities safely.
- Robot Reg Phonics Sessions – Supporting early literacy through engaging phonics activities in Pre-School.
- Coach Cam – Activities to develop gross motor skills, balance, and coordination.
- Shape Learning – Exploring different shapes through hands-on and practical activities.
- Ramadhan & Eid – Look out for our special themed activities, along with a wonderful Eid celebration and marvellous menu.
- World Book Day – 5th March: Children are invited to bring a book from home all week and dress up as their favourite character if they wish.
- The Gruffalo’s Birthday – Celebrating on 23rd March 2026 with themed stories and activities.

📌 Messages for Parents – Pre-school
- Please ensure your child’s packed lunch is balanced. If you would like ideas or guidance, please ask a member of staff.
- Please provide appropriate outdoor clothing as we will be accessing the forest more this half term.
- Ensure you sign your child in each morning using the nursery tablet.
- Thank you for helping us keep your child safe and ready to explore every day.
Butterfly room
In the Butterfly Room, children will explore themes through role play, stories, songs, outdoor activities, and hands-on experiences to support learning, independence, and confidence.
- Ramadhan & Eid – Children will learn about Ramadhan in an age-appropriate way and take part in Eid celebrations through stories, role play, and creative activities.
- Role Play Areas – Exploring and using our new role play areas to encourage imagination, social skills, and communication.
- Coach Cam – Continuing sessions to develop gross motor skills, balance, and coordination.
- Robot Reg Phonics – New phonics sessions in Pre-School to support early literacy and learning phonic sounds.

Home Learning:
- Baby Room – Story sacks at home; create a spring animal (prizes for best creations).
- Tweenies – Practice independence: coats, shoes, teeth brushing, and other tasks.
- Pre-School & Butterfly Room – Complete the Super Six home learning challenge; share photos.

🌸 Family Learning Event – Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea – Friday 13th March 2026
- Butterfly Room: 2:00 – 3:00 pm
- Baby Room, Tweenies & Pre-School: 3:30 – 4:30 pm
All events include story time, songs, and fun activities for children and one special grown-up (mum or another grown-up if mum is unavailable).
We look forward to welcoming one special grown-up to join us for story time, songs, and a lovely afternoon together. 💕

Parent Notices & Reminder
✔ Running Late? Call ahead to avoid late collection fees (£10 for the first 15 minutes, then £1 per minute).
✔ No Toys from Home: To prevent loss or distraction, children should not bring personal toys.
✔ Sickness: Please ring the nursery on each day your child is unwell to inform us.
Funding & Childcare Updates
- 30 Hours Funding Deadline: Apply by 31st March 2026 if your child turns 3 before this date.
- 15 Hours Funding: If your child is aged 2 or 3, they may be eligible for 15 hours of funded childcare per week. Please check your eligibility and apply as soon as possible to secure a place.
- Funding for Babies: Some families may be eligible for funded childcare for babies under 2 years old, depending on their circumstances. Please speak to our team for more information on how to apply.
