Our theme throughout nursery this term has been lifecycles. We have done a variety of activities to support our learning around this theme.
Each room in nursery had caterpillars to look after and watch grow into butterflies. We had discussions and did lots of activities about the lifecycle of a butterfly.
Children observed changes from a caterpillar to a butterfly and we watched as they flew away when they were fully grown.
Some of the activities we have done around this topic are:
- Making butterfly masks
- Reading the hungry caterpillar story and using props
- Making fruit salad – Discussing all the fruits that the caterpillar ate in the hungry caterpillar story and the fruits we like to eat
Children had also planted sunflower seeds to watch them grow. We had discussions about what things a sunflower seed needs to grow and observed changes from seed to sunflower.
Children also planted cress seeds and watched it grow ready to take home.
