Nursery Rhymes Newsletter – January 2026

Nursery Rhymes Newsletter

Happy New Year to all our children and families. We hope you had a lovely festive break, and we are excited for all that 2026 will bring.

We would like to warmly welcome Anna to our team. Anna will be based in the Pre-School room, and we are delighted to have her join us.

We hope you all enjoyed Parents’ Evening, where we had the opportunity to share your child’s achievements and continue working together to support new goals and learning.

Safeguarding Reminder

The safety of our children is paramount. Please ensure that you do not allow others to enter the nursery behind you when arriving or leaving.

We kindly ask that parents and carers closely supervise their child/ren in the car park at all times. Please note that the nursery cannot take responsibility for any incidents that occur in the car park.

Thank you for your continued support.

Each week, we focus on five key words to support children’s language, communication, and understanding of our nursery themes.

  • On display outside each room – so children can see and use them all day

  • Fun at home – try using the words in conversation, play, or stories

🌱 Our Learning Themes This Term

This term, children across the nursery will be exploring a range of themes that support their confidence, communication, physical development and understanding of the world. Activities will be carefully adapted to suit each age group, ensuring all children are supported at their own stage of development.

Across the nursery, our themes include:

  • New Beginnings & New Year
Helping children settle back into nursery routines, build confidence, independence and friendships.
  • Winter to Spring & Seasonal Changes
Exploring changes in the weather, nature and animals, including learning about hibernation and cold climates through Arctic Adventures.
  • Staying Warm & Healthy Lifestyles
Learning how to look after our bodies by staying warm, being active and developing good oral health and healthy habits.
  • Let’s Get Physical
Encouraging movement through dance, outdoor play and physical activities to support coordination and strength.
  • Kindness & Feelings
Supporting children to recognise and talk about their emotions, show kindness and build positive relationships.
  • Working Together & People Who Help Us
Learning how to share, take turns and work as part of a group, while discovering the roles of people in our community.
  • Outdoor Learning & Maths (Over 3’s focus)
Developing early maths skills such as counting, measuring and problem-solving through outdoor activities.
  • Cultural Celebrations & Traditions
Exploring Pancake Week, Chinese New Year and Ramadhan through stories, role play, creative activities and discussions, in an age-appropriate way.

All learning is delivered through play, stories, songs and hands-on experiences, with activities carefully differentiated to meet the needs of both our Under 3’s and Over 3’s.

Caterpillars – Baby Room

This term, the Caterpillars will be focusing on sensory play and developing vocabulary linked to the five senses.

We will be exploring ice and, hopefully, snow ❄️, along with getting stuck into cornflour (apologies in advance for the extra washing!), paint, and a variety of natural materials.

These materials will be used in activities such as playdough and messy play, giving the children lots of opportunities to explore, experiment, and show just how creative they can be — so keep an eye out for our little masterpieces!

Caterpillars Home Learning – Winter Walk

Why not go on a winter walk adventure with your child and explore their senses together?

You could:

  • Explore something new or something your child really enjoys
  • Talk about what they can see
  • Listen to what they can hear
  • Explore how things feel (cold air, crunchy leaves, soft snow)

A snowy walk would be perfect if the weather allows!
Please feel free to send us photos of your child exploring — we would love to share their experiences at nursery.

Tweenies

This term, our focus is on developing independence. We will be encouraging the children to recognise their names and practise putting on their coats and hats independently. You can really support this learning by encouraging these skills at home too.

We will also be learning about different animals, how they survive during the winter months, and what hibernation means.

Tweenies Home Learning – Homemade Bird Feeders

Why not have a go at making a homemade bird feeder together? This is a lovely way to support our learning about animals and caring for wildlife during winter. Please feel free to share photos of your creations with us.

Pre-School & Butterfly room

This term, we are learning about continents and where we live in the world. We are also exploring winter animals and will be going on a winter walk to discover what we can find in our environment.

The children are really enjoying water play at the moment and are getting creative through a wide range of activities.

If your child creates anything at home that you would like to share with us at nursery, please use the Famly app to share it with the team — we love celebrating their learning.

Pre-school Home Learning – Name Writing & Pencil Control

We will be focusing on learning to write our names and developing pencil control.
Please remember to collect your child’s learning pack from their room to support this at home.

“We are looking forward to a fun and busy half term! Thank you for your continued support in helping your child explore, learn, and grow. If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s key person – we love working together with families to make learning enjoyable for everyone!”
