Fixbees Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome Back to Nursery
We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday. The children have returned with lots of smiles, and it has been lovely to see them reconnect with their friends and staff. We are excited for the term ahead and all the learning opportunities we have planned.
We would also like to take this opportunity to let parents know that Nicole will be leaving us. Nicole has been a valued member of our team, and we would like to thank her for all the care and support she has given to the children during her time with us. We wish her all the very best in her next chapter.

🌱 Our Learning Themes This Term
This term, children across the nursery will be exploring a range of themes that support their confidence, communication, physical development and understanding of the world. Activities will be carefully adapted to suit each age group, ensuring all children are supported at their own stage of development.
Across the nursery, our themes include:
- New Beginnings & New Year
Helping children settle back into nursery routines, build confidence, independence and friendships. - Winter to Spring & Seasonal Changes
Exploring changes in the weather, nature and animals, including learning about hibernation and cold climates through Arctic Adventures. - Staying Warm & Healthy Lifestyles
Learning how to look after our bodies by staying warm, being active and developing good oral health and healthy habits. - Let’s Get Physical
Encouraging movement through dance, outdoor play and physical activities to support coordination and strength. - Kindness & Feelings
Supporting children to recognise and talk about their emotions, show kindness and build positive relationships. - Working Together & People Who Help Us
Learning how to share, take turns and work as part of a group, while discovering the roles of people in our community. - Outdoor Learning & Maths (Over 3’s focus)
Developing early maths skills such as counting, measuring and problem-solving through outdoor activities. - Cultural Celebrations & Traditions
Exploring Pancake Week, Chinese New Year and Ramadhan through stories, role play, creative activities and discussions, in an age-appropriate way.
All learning is delivered through play, stories, songs and hands-on experiences, with activities carefully differentiated to meet the needs of both our Under 3’s and Over 3’s.
Babies
This half term in the Babies Room, we are focusing on settling in new babies and helping them feel safe, secure, and happy at nursery.
To support this, children are enjoying lots of music and movement and sharing stories and books together. We will also continue with our usual sensory activities, including water play, playdough, and zip-lock bag play, which support exploration and development.
We are also promoting kindness and independence through activities such as train tracks and jigsaws. These activities give babies opportunities to complete tasks independently, while also learning to play alongside others, share, and take turns.
Tweenies
This term, children in the Tweenie Room will be exploring a range of fun, hands-on activities that support their confidence, independence, communication, and early development through play and exploration.
Outdoor Learning & Exploring Nature
Children will enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring nature in small groups. We will look closely at birds, bugs, and spiders, following the children’s interests as they observe, point, name, and talk about what they can see. These experiences help build curiosity, early language, and awareness of the natural world.
Sensory Play & Winter Activities
Children love sensory play, especially ice play and winter-themed activities. We will continue to provide opportunities to explore ice, cold textures, water, and other sensory resources. These activities support curiosity, fine motor skills, and early problem-solving in a fun and engaging way.
People Who Help Us
Through simple role play, toys, and books, children will begin to learn about people who help us, such as police officers, firefighters, and builders. Dressing up and vehicle play will help children develop imagination, confidence, and social skills.
Role Play, Puppets & Communication
Puppets, role play, and small-world play will be used to support communication, listening, and turn-taking. These activities encourage children to use words, gestures, and expressions to share their ideas and feelings.
Early Maths Through Play
Early maths skills will be introduced through everyday play, such as counting toys, filling and emptying containers, and exploring more and less. Simple baking and sensory activities will help children explore numbers and quantities in a meaningful way.
Cultural Learning – Ramadhan
Children will be introduced to Ramadhan in a gentle, age-appropriate way through stories, pictures, and creative activities. This supports awareness of different cultures and encourages kindness and respect for others.
Pre-School
This term in Pre-School, children will be exploring a range of exciting themes that support their confidence, independence, communication skills and early learning, while preparing them for their next steps.
Outdoor Learning & Nature Walks
Children will enjoy small-group nature walks, where they can explore the changing seasons, notice plants, animals and weather, and talk about what they see. These experiences help children build curiosity, language skills and early maths, such as counting and comparing objects in the environment.
People Who Help Us
Through dressing up, role play and discussions, children will learn about people who help us in our community, such as the police, firefighters, ambulance staff and construction workers. We will explore vehicles like police cars, fire engines, ambulances and cranes, helping children understand different roles while developing imagination and teamwork.
Role Play, Puppets & Communication
Children will take part in puppet play and puppet shows, which support confidence, listening, turn-taking and expressive language. Role play allows children to explore feelings, act out real-life situations and develop strong communication skills in a fun and engaging way.
Maths Through Everyday Experiences
Maths learning will be embedded into everyday activities such as baking, where children will use numbers to measure ingredients, talk about quantities (how much, more or less), count and follow simple instructions. This helps children understand maths in a practical and meaningful way.
Cultural Learning – Ramadhan
Children will learn about Ramadhan in an age-appropriate way through stories, discussions, creative activities and role play. This helps build respect for different cultures, traditions and beliefs while encouraging kindness and understanding.
Babies – Home Learning
Nature Walk – Winter to Spring & Kindness
This term, we are learning about winter turning into spring, as well as kindness and independence.
We would love for you to go on a nature walk at home or nearby with your child. Look for the signs of the changing seasons, such as new buds, birds, or other signs of spring.
You can also use the walk to encourage your child’s independence by letting them walk safely and practise kindness, for example, being gentle with plants, flowers, or wildlife.
Please take photos during your walk and either bring them into nursery or share them on Famly so we can celebrate your child’s learning.
🏠 Pre-School & Tweenies Home Learning – Cooking Fun!
Children in Pre-School and the Tweenie Room are invited to make any type of vegetarian stew at home with their family. This activity helps children explore healthy eating, simple measuring, and working together.
Please take lots of photos while cooking and share them on Famly, so we can celebrate your child’s efforts and learning in nursery.
If you do not have your own recipe, we will share a simple vegetarian stew recipe on Famly.
Please complete the activity and upload your photos by the end of January.
