Hygge Training

Baby Room staff have completed training on the Hygge Approach.

The Hygge Approach to Early Years, bases their curriculum on a slow and calm way of teaching babies and young children. Taking time to appreciate our natural environment around us, using this as an invitation to play and learn.

After being inspired by this, we have introduced some small changes to our teaching such as our ‘curiosity pockets’. These are small and interesting invitations to play, that are easily accessible to Babies.

For example, a small chest which opens up to reveal shells or petals or other natural resources that can be used to spark interest and learning.

We have also used this inspiration when considering our home learning.

This term we encouraged families to get out in the natural environment and be mindful of what they could discover using all of their senses, for example could they hear the leaves rustling in the trees? or birds tweeting?

What could they see and smell, and to use these stimuli as a way of interacting with babies and encouraging them to learn through their senses.
