Nursery Rhymes Newsletter – June 2025

“Nursery Rhymes Newsletter – Summer Term”

Wow – what an awe-inspiring term we’ve had! The learning has been wonderful, and it’s been a joy to see our little ones grow, explore, and thrive through play, songs, and fun activities.

A big thank you to all the families who joined us for our Parents Evening – it was such a lovely evening full of smiles, celebration, and sharing special moments from your child’s journey with us.

👀 Keep an eye out for our brand-new summer menu, filled with fresh, seasonal meals for the children to enjoy.

🎉 And don’t forget – we’re getting ready to celebrate 30 amazing years of nursery life! More exciting details coming soon.

We’re also proud to share that we are working towards two important goals:

🌞 The Sun Safe Nursery Award – helping children learn how to stay safe in the sun while enjoying time outdoors.

💛 Dingley’s Promise – our commitment to inclusion, making sure every child feels valued, supported, and celebrated at nursery.

Caterpillar Room – Busy Little Gardeners!

The Caterpillars have had a fantastic time exploring nature and learning through hands-on activities!

To celebrate National Bee Day, we sent home some lovely Lobelia plants to help attract bees and encourage care for our environment. Thank you for planting them at home and helping the bees!

In our outdoor area, the children have been busy planting herbs which they’ve been exploring in our mud kitchen – smelling, touching, and even pretending to cook with them!

These activities link perfectly to our current home learning theme: The Senses.

🏡 Home Learning: Explore Your Senses!

Why not explore the five senses with your child at home?
👃 Smell different herbs and spices
👂 Listen for sounds in the garden or on a walk
🖐 Feel different textures around the house
👀 Look for colourful objects outdoors
👅 Taste safe fruits or vegetables and talk about sweet, sour, or crunchy

Tweenies –  Growing, Playing & Becoming Independent!

Our Tweenies have been very busy learning and growing in so many exciting ways!

We’ve been exploring the world of plants—learning all about roots and how things grow. The children have enjoyed planting and watching nature work its magic!

At the same time, we’re building independence by encouraging the children to put on their own coats and shoes. It’s been amazing to see their confidence grow as they proudly try things for themselves.

Our flower shop role play has also been a big hit! The children are taking on different roles—buying, selling, arranging flowers—and really getting involved in their own imaginative play.

🏡 Home Learning: All About My Family

This term’s home learning is all about families.

Each child will receive a Family Tree Sheet to take home. You can help your child by:

  • Sticking on photos or drawing pictures of family members
  • Talking about who’s in your family and why they’re special

This helps the children feel proud of who they are and where they come from. If you don’t have a printer or photos, feel free to email pictures to us and we’ll print them for you.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful family trees you create together!

Pre-School

Our Pre-schoolers have been full of curiosity this term as they’ve explored the amazing world of life cycles.

We planted our very own beans and talked about what plants need to grow. The children loved checking in on their little plants every day!

We’ve also been preparing for the arrival of chicks, learning all about how they hatch and grow. It’s been an exciting countdown as we wait to welcome them.

Alongside this, we’ve been exploring with loose parts—creating, building, and using our imaginations. And a real highlight this term was our visit to the nursing home, where the children shared smiles and stories with the residents.

🏡 Home Learning: School Readiness Activities

As we get closer to school transition, Pre-school children could complete school readiness activities at home.

These include:

  • Dressing themselves
  • Practising writing their name
  • Following simple instructions
  • Asking for help when needed

Butterflies Ready, Set, School!

Our Butterflies have been busy little learners this term, getting prepared for their next big step – school!

We’ve been exploring school readiness through fun and engaging activities like role-playing classrooms, helping the children become more familiar with what school life might look like.

We’ve been working on hand-eye coordination using dot-to-dot shapes and letters, helping to build the early writing and fine motor skills needed for school.

We’ve also been learning all about our community—talking about the people and places around us and why they are important.

Creativity has been buzzing in the room too! The children enjoyed making bumblebee crafts and using fruit prints in our gluing and sticking art sessions.

🏡 Home Learning: School Readiness

To continue building these skills at home, our Butterflies are taking part in school readiness activities

These include:

  • Dressing themselves
  • Practising writing their name
  • Following simple instructions
  • Asking for help when needed

These small steps make a big difference in helping your child feel confident and ready for school.
