FAQS

Do I need to make an appointment to look around?

Yes. Please ring the site you wish to visit and we will organise a ‘Show around’. All our nurseries are slightly different so we do recommend booking to visit at least 2 of the nurseries or feel free to visit them all!

What is the Early Years Curriculum that nurseries use?

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): All nurseries registered with Ofsted must follow the EYFS. The EYFS covers children from 0-5 years and children complete the EYFS at the end of their reception year at school. The EYFS is a play-based curriculum as research tells us that this is the best way for children to learn. Each area of learning and development must be implemented through planned, purposeful play and through a mixture of adult-led and child-initiated activity.

The EYFS is split into two documents:

The Statutory Framework –
this sets out the legal requirements nurseries must follow to look after children, it sets out requirements for things such as:
Staff qualifications
Ratios of staff to children
Guidance on medications
Safeguarding children
Space requirements
Covering the EYFS requirements. Development Matters – Development Matters supports nursery practitioners to implement the statutory requirements of the EYFS. It sets out the themes, principles and practice of the EYFS. It looks at what and how children learn and sets out the ‘usual’ stage of development across six age bands. The age bands overlap to demonstrate that every child is unique and children do not grow and develop at the same rate.
The areas of learning and development in the EYFS are:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
Communication and Language (CL)
Mathematics
Physical Development (PD)
Literacy
Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
Understanding the World (UTW)

No, we are unable to refund you or give you a session in leiu.

Do I get a refund for training day closures or holidays?

The nursery does not charge for the standard 8 BH’s or where training days fall within the term. If we have to close for adverse weather then we do charge as the staff are still paid. We give a 50% discount for 2 holiday weeks a year. These must be booked 4 weeks in advance and notice must be given in writing or email to the nursery manager.

Do I receive my deposit and registration fee back when my child leaves the nursery?

Registration fees are non-refundable but your deposit is deducted off your first months invoice.

How do we allocate funded places?

Visit the ‘Downloads’ section of our website to view our ‘Our Guide to Funding’ where we explain in detail.

Do you offer places to children with special educational needs.

‘Yes. We have a set number of places available at all our settings. All our nurseries have Level 3 SENCO qualified practitioners as well as them achieving the ‘Dingley’s Promise’ Accreditation.

My child has a dietary requirement, can you cater to their needs?

Yes. All our nurseries will work with you to adapt our menu to meet your child’s dietary requirements.

How do I set up a tax free childcare account?

Please visit the HMRC website to find out if you qualify https://www.gov.uk/tax-free-childcare
Once you have set up an account you will need to authorise the payment to the nursery. Tax Free Childcare payments will need to reach the nursery before the 21st of each month. Please note that payments usually take 3-4 business days to reach our account from the date you authorise the payment.

How much notice do I need to give when my child leaves nursery?

If you are offered a place at another nursery, or your child is moving on to school it is important that you provide nursery with four weeks’ notice so we can terminate your child’s place as well as transferring any funding over to a new setting.

Can I take my child out of nursery to go on holiday?

If within your child’s time at nursery you intend to go on holiday, it is very important that you inform a member of staff. We ask you to notify us of any absence two weeks beforehand so we can issue a holiday request form for you to fill out. This is so we are aware at nursery of the date your holiday will start and when your child is due back into nursery.

Do I have to give notice if I want to drop some of my child’s sessions?

Yes. We require one month’s written notice should you wish to reduce your child’s hours of attendance.

What is the policy for sending children home with high temperature?

If your child is suffering from a doubtful rash, discharge from the eyes or ears or temperature above 37.5 then they should be kept at home until they have been clear from symptoms for at least 24 hours. We reserve the right to extend periods of exclusion in the event of a prolonged outbreak of contagious illness.

How long do I have to keep my child away from nursery if they have an illness i.e. chicken pox, diarrhoea etc?

You cannot bring your child to nursery for at least 24 hours after high temperatures and for at least 48 hours after diarrhoea and / or vomiting.
