Chinese New Year 2019 Blog
February 2019

The children have been learning about Chinese New Year 2019. We have spoken to one of our parents about the things they do at home to help celebrate the new year and how we can extend this at nursery for the children to learn about. She provided some decorations that we put up in our home corner too. The children took part in our listening circle time activity where one of our little boy’s Walton spoke about the things he does and eats at home during this special time. Here’s a few things he said…

“we have vegetable wontons”

“we wear special clothes like these ones, my daddy and grandpa do too”

“we put a light in a lantern to put in the sky”

“mummy and grandma dances to funny music”

We also enjoyed making our own vegetable spring rolls. Our cook Ashleigh provide us with a lovely Chinese menu to start off the celebration on the 5 th of February.

Next week we have a few more things going on to continue the celebration which are…

  • Pigs in chocolate angel delight (year of the pig)
  • Painting Chinese Symbols
  • Making a large Dragon
  • Dragon dancing
