From a Parent’s prospective…
I was really surprised to find a friend of mine was shocked about being able to claim back childcare costs through Universal Credit – as he thought he and his partner would be ineligible as they both worked – once I told him that the childcare cost repayment was something they could claim as a working couple he was …honestly quite upset his prejudice against “claiming benefits” has seen his daughter miss out on expanding her social time and circle outside of the family, and the realisation he wouldn’t have had to be relying on family to work.
I’m expressing this because I was under the impression that Universal Credit was understood to be “the working person Benefit”!!
If this young guy is still stuck in this prejudice, I wonder how many other working couples are not sending their children your way and missing out on this invaluable experience!!
