This term the children have been following the theme Amazing Me. Throughout
nursery we have been looking at ourselves in mirrors, the older children have
been observing differences and similarities in each other. They have made Pa per
plate faces using different craft material’s, drawn self portraits and have been
talking about their hair, skin, and eye colour. Whilst the babies have used the
mirrors to look at and point to their different body parts such as their eyes and
noses. They used their hands to paint with and have been looking at books
showing and they have also been singing ‘Heads, shoulders knees and toes’ to
encourage recognition.

The children have been encouraged to talk about their families and who they
live with. Many of the children brought in photographs of family members to
make family tree. A handprint friendship circle was also made using paints to
match our skin tones.
We have been looking at books about different cultures to encourage thinking
and conversation around different cultures and celebrations important to
individual children. The children have also explored and extended the theme
through role play activities in both the home corner, ‘making dinner’ like
‘Mummy or Daddy’ and in the water when bathing the babies.
