Our theme this half term is sound and colour. Research undertaken in 1990 showed that exposure to music from early childhood onwards helps children to speak more clearly, develop a longer vocabulary and strengthen social and emotional skills. The psychologist Howard Gardner already argued in 1983 that music intelligence is as important as logical and emotional intelligence. Likewise for  the understanding of colour early in babies life as it acts as a building block for learning and understanding so much more in all areas of their life.

This week we have used drums and the colour Yellow in our play. We made music with the drums asking lots of varying sounds and levels of noise. The children also got involved in painting with the drumsticks using yellow paint, and sensory exploration with all things yellow.
